7/3/2023 0 Comments Jaguar xke redline gearbox oilBut at 115,000 miles am losing synchro for second gear. I have a 1961 MGA which I have owned since 1972, Everything runs great. I did the same before I added it to my gearbox and no one is more critical (at least to those that know me) than I am. Just the same, with the key word being performance, please perform your own diligence and research. Since the fluid is synthetic, I should never have to replace it and therefore as a factor relative to total cost, it is cheap as compared to conventional petroleum products-not counting superior performance. As a corollary, I did check my gearbox fluid (along with everything else) before I went to the Stowe British invasion last week and I have lost zero fluid since the transfusion. I don't have the exact date, but I would venture that I changed from Redline MTL (50204) SAE 75W80 API GL-4 to the Ford GL4 synthetic XT-M5-QS about 6 years ago. Maybe the best recommendations would be the 400 or so reviews on Amazon? My transmission performed flawlessly during the trip and the shifter if that is any indication of temperature stayed cool during the entire trip regardless of terrain. I just got back yesterday from a 500 mile weekend trip to Vermont where the terrain was very hilly with countless wonderful curvy roads. It is very popular with the Miata and Porsche people. I am not aware of any MGA people outside of myself using Ford XT-M5-QS product. They come unlooked for, like the morning dove upon your window sill, and, if you turn to your usual task, disappear and you shall never find that perception again never, I say-but perhaps years, ages, and I know not what events and worlds my lie between you and its return.Įdited 1 time(s). No financial interest, but just turning you and whoever else on to a real good product. It ain't cheap, it will run you about $60 to change over, but in the total perspective, it is well worth the money. You can get this stuff at your friendly Ford Dealer or on Amazon. I will never use regular oil in a gear box again. Not to look a gifted horse in the mouth, I performed the transfusion into my MGA about and it transformed my gear box that was already a delight to shift into a thrill to shift. It's the "magic sauce" to borrow from some reviews. OMG!!! Let me say that again! The Ford fluid made shifting the Moss box in my E-Type a dream. Later on, about six years later, I learned from the Porsche 356 guys that they had abandoned the Redline MTL that they were also using and started using Ford Motorcraft, Full Synthetic Manual Transmission Fluid XT-M5-QS. In doing some research, the guys on the E-Type forum steered me toward Redline MTL transmission fluid which greatly improved the shifting. My '62 E-Type with a Moss gearbox had a condition where struggling with the 2nd gear synchro was "a way of life".
